Conflict of Interest

The Excellent Midwifery Journal (EMJ) requires all authors, reviewers, and editors to disclose any potential conflicts of interest related to submitted manuscripts. A conflict of interest arises when professional judgment regarding the validity of research is influenced by secondary interests, such as financial gain, personal relationships, or academic competition.

  1. Authors’ Responsibilities: All authors must disclose any financial or personal relationships with other parties or organizations that could inappropriately influence (bias) their work. Examples of potential conflicts include employment status, consulting, stock ownership, honoraria, paid expert testimony, patent applications, and grants or other funding.
    • Authors must include a “Conflict of Interest” statement at the end of the manuscript (before the References).
    • If there are no conflicts, authors must include the statement: “The authors declare that there are no conflicts of interest related to the publication of this article.”
  2. Reviewer Responsibilities: Reviewers must decline invitations to review a manuscript if they have a conflict of interest arising from competition, collaboration, or other relationships with the authors, companies, or institutions associated with the manuscript.
  3. Editor’s Responsibilities: Editors are not permitted to make editorial decisions regarding manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest. In such cases, the manuscript will be handled by another member of the Editorial Board.
