The Excellent Midwifery Journal (EMJ) provides direct open access to all of its content, based on the principle that making research findings freely available to the public will support a broader global exchange of knowledge.

This journal is a fully open-access journal, which means that all articles are available online to all users immediately upon publication. Users are permitted to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full text of articles, or use them for other legitimate purposes, without seeking prior permission from the publisher or authors. This is in line with the definition of open access from the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI).

All published articles are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0), which allows others to remix, adapt, and build upon the work—even for commercial purposes—provided they give appropriate credit (attribution) and license derivative works under the same terms.
